Blustery Conditions Hold Down Low Scores

Jordan Spieth seems intent on becoming only the fourth golfer to win two consecutive Masters. The 22-year-old Dallas native, who parlayed his scintillating opening round 64 last year to capture his first major with a record-setting 18 under par, used an early morning start and a solid, bogey-free round Thursday to set the tone for this year’s tournament. Masters Record-Setting Rounds Continue

What appeared to be just another record-setting round of golf at The Masters by Jordan Spieth got very interesting on the last two holes Saturday when Spieth uncharacteristically double-bogeyed the 17th hole and lost three strokes off of his seven-stroke lead. At the same time Spieth used a driver to get into tree trouble, mishit a short chipshot, and missed a short bogey putt on 17, Justin Rose was finishing up his round with his fifth birdie in the last six holes. Rose’s late move positioned him to play Sunday’s final round with Spieth down just four strokes. Continue reading

Masters Features Low Scoring First Day

The Final Fours are over, the seemingly endless NBA season has not reached the playoffs, major league baseball just started its six month season, and the Kentucky Derby and Indianapolis 500 are still one month away. It is springtime in Augusta, Georgia. Rory Has Them Roaring

Rory McIlroy has game. Plenty of it. While great things were expected of the Northern Ireland golfer after he won the 2011 U.S. Open at age 22 and he captured his first PGA championship the next year, he now has reached first name only status after winning two majors in consecutive months this year. Yesterday’s one stroke victory at the Valhalla Golf Club, site of this year’s PGA Championship, showcased McIlroy’s ability to fight through a challenging field after relinquishing a lead.
