The annual three-day National Football League (NFL) draft gets underway tonight in Philadelphia. Two hundred fifty-three names will be called before the event concludes Saturday afternoon. Thirty-two league franchises, each hoping to improve their team’s talent pool, will make choices to either correct a position deficiency, or select the best player available (according to their talent evaluations) at the time of their pick. LSU faithful have had thirty-one days to process the embarrassing drama that played out around Les Miles in November as the Tigers plummeted from the ranks of the unbeaten (ranked No. 2 in the initial CFP poll) to a team not ranked in the Top 25. A three-game SEC losing streak put the quirky eleventh year head coach on the hot seat, and ultimately atop the shoulders of his players following a job-saving victory over Texas A & M in the home finale, a win that literally gave him a “third quarter” reprieve from the coaches’ unemployed list. Mad Hatter Call Does It Again

LSU Coach Les Miles pulled another special team gimmick play out of his white hat Saturday night to score the winning touchdown in the Tigers victory over Florida. Place-kicker Trent Domingue took a lateral pass from Brad Kragthorpe 16 yards for a touchdown to break a tie between the upbeaten SEC teams with just under eleven minutes remaining to give the Bayou Bengals a hard-earned 35-28 victory.
